Catching Up

It's not easy being... croaky.

I'm back. I never really left, I just had a lot on my plate. Not that I don't still, of course, but there's a lot to tell you about as well. Let's start with some Mommy stuff, since it is Mommy Monday. Today, I went to work sick and without a voice thanks to some sinus crap the little monsters have given me. I had to go in, no more time off. Before you slate me for it, I stayed to myself over in my corner and alcohol gelled myself and everything I touched (which was really only my paperwork, my laptop, and my cell phone). I am pretty sure I didn't infect anyone. Well no more than my colleague who had the same and got sent home because she was coughing all over the office.

I am mostly over that bit of it. However, I didn't even last the whole day. Not because I wanted to come home, although I would have killed for a nap, but because nursery called. Bug has chicken pox. A whole 8 days before my annual leave renews. You see, I have none left at this point with half-terms and Hunter's many specialist appointments. Luckily I have the option to work from home. But how much fun do you think that is going to be with a sick toddler? I anticipate a few late nights in my immediate future. I am looking forward to a little 'girl time' with her though. She does give great cuddles. Family, check.

I had hoped to get back on the treadmill this morning (until I woke up feeling like ass), but again, that is an unlikely goal at least until I can breathe properly again. So not much on the Fitness side of things for a bit longer.

The only thing I am hoping is that if I am home all week I can get a reasonable amount done and still find time to write. I have good news (in case you haven't already read it on my Facebook)-- I got the job as the Cheerleading Expert for About.Com. I am so excited! I applied the first time for this nearly two years ago, and it has been no picnic, but finally all of the hard work I put in has paid off. Now, I just have to get to work. There's a lot of research and writing to be done. It also means a bit more money each month (yaaayyy) and since I have a car payment now, that is seriously good news. I am also in the process of applying for 5 jobs which would be better for me financially because they either pay more, are closer to home, or will save me on gas and childcare. Nonetheless, the About.Com job will help get the car paid off sooner. Finances-- check!

On to Fiction. I am feeling much more in tune with my fiction at the moment. I'm not getting as much done as I would like to, but I am finding that I look forward to writing and spend a lot of time trying to squeeze a bit in. Considering I went through a patch where I didn't care if I ever wrote again (life overwhelms me from time to time), this is a good thing. I am also slightly closer to my goal of finishing Valentine Bride. The first draft, at least, then I can edit the ever-loving snot out of it while I plot/write the next one. I would like to think I am making some progress on this area of my life.

Out of my four areas of focus, I am probably a smidge over 50%. Not bad. If you don't count my sounding like Kermit The Frog this week and living with Princess Polka Do,t the Queen of Tantrums, things are pretty okay. They could be better, but then they could be a whole lot worse. I'll take okay.

Spring is in the air...

Saturday, 15 March 2014

It is dammit! At least it better be. I am so sick of grey days. Now, of course, we haven't been cursed with the mountains of snow that you all have had back home (rumor has it we will be getting snow in April--bleh!), but still it has been cold, rainy, and just... grey. I am forcing spring upon us with my new decor. Hope it brightens your day. Every chance I get to change the header and background of the blog brightens mine. :-)

The weather isn't why I have been skipping posts, though. I have been skipping because I have been working on something SUPER exciting. And doing ridiculous amounts of work, and staying up half the night with a sick toddler... But enough whine-- I have good news coming! Soon. As soon as I have signed a contract and know they can't go back on the deal, lol. No, I haven't sold a book. Not yet at least. But I have accomplished one of my long-time writing goals. I am so excited!

Here is my 2014 Four Focuses Report:

Fitness: I have temporarily cancelled my gym membership (even though I loved going to yoga) because I now have a car payment (Colby, my little, sparkly, blue car with WORKING windshield wipers is worth it), so things aren't amazing on the fitness focus, but I have plans to get back on schedule soon.

Finances: My news includes a new paycheck which will help with finances and I am applying for three jobs closer to home which will also help save on gas. Plus, my council tax and car insurance have gone down a bit, so finances are strained at the moment but still looking up.

Family: I have devoted all of my extra time to my family lately-- they have needed me and what's more, I have needed them. Doing great here!

Fiction: I have been writing, not as much as I'd like to, but something is better than nothing I suppose. I am also rather excited about the prospect of getting a job closer to home because some of the time I spend commuting each day can be used for writing instead-- keep your fingers crossed I get one of them.

So, there you have it. It isn't much of a post, but hopefully I will be back on track after next week (I will be spending all of my time writing personal statements for job applications next week). Now I better go to bed. It is nearly midnight and the sick toddler has already been up once. I could be in for another long night.

Happy writing/reading everyone!
